Andy Murray Thrashes Nadal And Meets Federer In Final
Andy Murray’s win against world number one Rafael Nadal on the hard court in Toronto has confirmed that his best chance to win a major is the hard courts of the US Open.
Murray thrashed Nadal in the match on Saturday and won 6-3, 6-4. After Murray’s recent dip in form many saw this win as an upset but the confident player saw it in a different light,
“You never expect to beat the best players in the world,” he said. “But if I play my best tennis, like I did today, I have a very good chance against all of them.”
However Nadal has not won a tournament this year on the surface and of course the US which is played on the hard courts is the only major event he has not won.
Anyone who watched the game would agree that it was Murray who won the game rather than Nadal throwing it away. His fantastic pace could not be matched by Nadal and in particular it was his searing forehands and his often criticised first serve that did the damage.
It really is a fantastic win for Murray considering that Nadal was in such good form and let’s not forget either world number one. Nadal won the 2008 Olympics on hard courts so he does have a track record of success on the surface even thou it is not his preferred one.
The two players have great respect for each other on and off the court with memorable moments after Murray’s defeat to Nadal at Wimbledon where he said Nadal was his favourite player to play and watch.
It was Roger Federer arguably the best tennis player to ever play the game that came through the other side of the draw and will face Murray in the final. He beat Novak Djokovic but it was a very close run thing and at times it looked as if the great champion was going out.
At the start of the match it looked like Federer was going to cruse it but credit has to go to Djokovic who turned the tempo up and transformed it into a great spectacle for all those privileged to see it.
If Federer goes on to win the final against Murray it will distinguish a lot of the chat around Federers age beginning to show and hold him back. If he achieves the win he will have beaten Tomas Berdych, Djokovic and Murray in three days which is a great achievement.
Federer said in a press conference,
“Well, look, I thought he was pretty tired at the end — and he’s the younger guy,” “So that’s a good sign.”
It is well known in the tennis world that Murray and Federer do not see eye to eye off the court and with a respectable record against Federer Murray will fancy his chances to take the title.
