22 Year Old Designs New Product For iPod Touch
The iPhone is a product that has completely revolutionised the telecoms industry forever. However the problem is they are very expensive to buy and many people cannot afford them.
However a 22 year old inventor from Shenzhen China has invented something that might change things forever. The inventor calls himself Maxpy and he said it was simple economics that led him to create the device. When he was asked why he created the product he said,
“Because I love the iPhone, but it’s too expensive in China.”
His new product is called the Apple Peel 520. You fit the product on to the back of an iPod touch and it allows your iPod to be converted into a mobile telephone.
The device has a battery, connection dock and sim card that allows calls to be made from your iPod. It’s an amazing piece of technology and when it is installed you typically get around 5 hours of talk time and 120 hours of stand by according to a review done by Dailytech.com.
It also has software that allows you to send and receive text messages from other mobile devices.
The typical cost for an iPhone is around $600 where as an iPod touch tends to be around $250. Consumers could save up to 50% with this new device and the market is anticipating it’s full scale manufacture to see how consumers will react to it.
Maxpy said he began to create the device last year and it is not in full scale production yet. There have been around 150 of the products made and they have already been snapped up on Taobao.com which an ecommerce site in China.
The creator says they are trying to ensure they have full intellectual property rights on the device before it is produced and sold on mass scale.
It is a new and untested product and there has been some problems identified all ready. It does not support 3G yet which is major problem and is something Maxpy said will be sorted.
There has been some complaints about some of the text messaging functionality and no doubt there will be other issues identified as the product gets tested on a mass scale.
However some influential people within the Chinese technology world have come out in support of the product.
An editor of Taiwan-based Shanzhai.com said,
“It is the first time there has been a hardware application that has changed the functionality in such a key way”.
Apple has not talked about the product yet but they could have something to say about it and there might be some difficult times ahead for the Apple Peel 520.
